After four years of waiting the ICC Cricket World Cup is finally back. 
The tournament starts on Valentine’s Day, Sri Lanka and New Zealand going head to head. 
It’s hardly going to be a romantic affair with the Kiwis eager to avenge their 2011 semi-finals defeat. 
Will India be able to retain the crown this time round or could the Aussies win the trophy for a record 5th time? We look back at the best innings that make this old trophy so memorable.

5. Mahela Jayawardena 2007
The 2007 semi-final between Sri Lanka and New Zealand was to witness a mesmerising performance by skipper Jayawardena. After losing Sanath Jayasuriya in the first 3 overs and then Sangakarra in the 14th over, the captain stepped up. At first a careful performance Jayawardena got into the swing of things and executed boundaries with accuracy and grace. He knocked 115 runs with 10 fours and 3 sixes.

4. Graham Gooch 1983 
England are yet to win the World Cup even with greats such as Graham Gooch dominating the 80s. However, his performance in the Semi-Finals of 1983 shook India to the core. Gooch replied perfectly to India’s strong spin attack by sweeping the ball effortlessly on numerous occasions. He scored an impressive 115 to guide England to a place in the finals.

3. Imran Khan 1992
Pakistan had suffered a huge setback after losing Waqar Younis arguably the best bowler at the time. The disappointment continued winning just 1 game out of the first 5 and rain saving them a point. Miraculously they progressed to the final winning every game. Imran Khan’s pep talk certainly helped and his 72 runs against England helped Pakistan win the World Cup for the first time.

2. Dhoni  2011  
India had waited 28 years for this moment and as he has done so in all those years Captain Cool delivered a World Cup winning innings against Sri Lanka. In a display of sheer brute force and exquisite timed shots Dhoni managed to smash 91 from 79 balls to earn himself a place in World Cup history.

1. Gilchrist 2007 
Adam Gilchrist was one of the most gifted Australian batsmen in history. Australia’s dominance on cricket was to continue thanks to Gilchrist’s explosive batting in the final of 2007. He guided Australia to a record 3rd consecutive World Cup trophy and broke the record for the fastest final Century 100 runs off just 72 balls and he finished on 149.
