As the ICC World Twenty20 is set to begins in Bangladesh. We take a look at some of the moments that have defined this tournament in recent years.

West Indies won thanks to a great display by Sunil Narine, also known as the ‘mystery bowler’. Taking 3 wickets in four overs and only conceding 20 runs forced a tie. Going into a Super over West Indies eventually ran out winners.

09 – Mohammad Amir v Australia  986,746 views

People seem to forget what a real raw talent Mohammad Amir was. Although his career was stained by match-fixing scandals neither Pakistan nor Australia will forget his 5 wicket haul in one over. Two run outs and three wickets finished the game in that single 19th over.

08 – Brett Lee v Bangladesh 14,719 views
.
Fast Aussie bowler Brett Lee broke a record in becoming the first man to take a hat-trick in World T20. He consecutively bowled out three Bangladeshi batsmen Shakib Al Hassan, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alok Kapali. The Aussies crushed Bangladesh by nine wickets with 37 balls to spare.

07 – West Indies v Sri Lanka  6379, views

The most dramatic turnaround in cricket T20 history. After an abysmal start to the innings West Indies only managed a feeble 32 for 2 in ten overs. Then came the assault of Samuels who smashed 78 off 56 deliveries, counterattacking sensationally against dangerous Malinga. 3 sixes in one over secured a total of 137. West Indies won the final by 36 runs.

06 – England Upset  8,731 views

The greatest upset in world T20 history. A lacklustre England side were humiliated by unknown but brilliant Holland. Needing 2 runs off the last bowl Ryan ten Doeschate and Edgar Schiferli ran for their lives whilst Stuart Broad missed the run out. Cue the wild celebrations of the jubilant Dutch.

05 – Chris Gayle v South Africa   242 views

There may not be a more feared batsman in the world other than Chris Gayle. He showed what T20 was all about in the first game with a ferocious display smashing 117 off 56 balls. He also became the first batsman in T20 format to score a century. He certainly took South Africa by a storm.

04 – Brendon McCullum v Bangladesh  4558 views

A truly majestic display by a very talented batsman. The kiwi proved too much for Bangladesh as he smashed 123 runs in just 58 deliveries. With 11 fours and 7 sixes he managed to hit the only century of the tournament in 2012. He also became the first batsman to hit two centuries in the T20 format.

03 – Ajantha Mendis v Zimbabwe    1119 views

This may just have been the best spinning display by any player ever. Shane Warne would have been proud! In just 4 overs, the carrom ball specialist amassed incredible figures of 6-8. He literally tore apart the Zimbabwe team, single-handedly winning Sri Lanka the game.

02 – Yuvraj Singh six 6s   11,465 views

A moment to forget for Stuart Broad for sure. India losing momentum and on comes Yuvraj Singh to produce one of the greatest batting displays in T20. Producing the fastest 50 in the format off just 12 deliveries. Including breaking a record by smashing six 6’s in one over against the hapless Stuart Broad.

01 – India v Pakistan  256,374views

As we know, stakes don’t get higher than this. But when the two met in 2007 for the inaugural World T20 in the group stages it was one moment no one will ever forget. With Pakistan needing 5 off 3 deliveries and 4 wickets in hand it looked all too easy. The game was poised, with Pakistan needing just 1 run off a single delivery. Sreesanth bowled and Misbah‘s shot was horribly skewed ending in him being ran out. The game ended in a tie, India celebrating like they had won!
