Who is the richest person ever to live? Well, according to Website Celebrity Net Worth it was Mansa Musa of Mali - ruler of the Malian Empire which is now Ghana.
The 14th Century West African King came out top in the latest rich list, which was adjusted to account for inflation.
Only three living billionaires were on the list – Bill Gates (12), Mexican Carlos Slim Helu (22) and Warren Buffett (25).
The Rothschild family was second on the list followed by JD Rockerfeller.
Mansa Musa was born in 1280 was worth $400 billion (£248 billion) by the time he died in 1337. Much of his wealth came through his love for gold. Musa was also devout Muslim and his pilgrimage to Mecca made him well-known across northern Africa and the Middle East.
On route to his pilgrimage he gave much he gave gold to the poor and also traded gold for souvenirs. Furthermore, it has been recorded that he built a mosque each and every Friday.
