A FILM tackling the subject of anti-Muslim hatred which was made by a Keighley-based theatre company has premiered in Bradford.

Freesia – large parts of which were filmed in Keighley – was made by the Arakan Creative group.

One of the lead roles is played by Oakbank School pupil Matthew Thomas, who lives in Keighley.

The Bradford screening was at City Hall on March 24. Councillors, students and cast members were among the audience.

Conor Ibrahiem, artistic director of Arakan Creative, said: "The film was shown at private screenings around the UK last year, but this was its premiere in Bradford.

"The evening went well and the feedback we had was very positive. People consistently said the film was 'thought provoking', and other comments described it as powerful, hard-hitting, raw and emotional.

"I'm expecting the film to get a 12a rating and I want to take it into secondary schools and colleges.

"It's coming to the end of its festival run and I'm in discussions about distribution options, which I hope will be successful.

"I'd like this to be the first part of a trilogy of films. The second film I'm planning will be about Sharia law."

The Bradford screening featured a question and answer session with Mr Ibrahiem, Mr Thomas and Bradford-born actor Aqib Khan who also stars in the film.

Mr Ibrahiem, who lives in Bradford, thanked David Wilson of City of Film who helped arrange the event.
