Lindsay Lohan has been pictured carrying a copy of the Quran.

The 28-year-old actress was seen clutching the Quran having completed her first day of court-ordered community service in Brooklyn, New York.

Lindsey is to fulfill 125 hours of community service at Duffield Children's Centre in Fort Greene for reckless driving and lying to police in California in 2012.

According to The New York Post, the Children’s Centre sent a letter to all parents informing them that the actress would be at the centre, adding that she would not “be left alone."

“As with any volunteer, this would be under constant supervision from the classroom teacher and Duffield staff. Please know that all requirements for this volunteer work will be met, prior to her entering the classroom. Furthermore, volunteers are never left alone with children.”

The troubled actress has reportedly embarked on an 'emotional detox,' and is said to have given up alcohol and dating.

Last year Lindsay in a documentary with Oprah Winfrey, Lindsey said, 'I'm a very spiritual person and I've become more spiritual as time has gone on.

‘I’m really in touch whether it’s prayer or meditation... there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I've been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people.'
