A filmmaker has spoken about his dream to make it big in Bollywood after completing his first short movie.

Rafi Usmaan Raja, aged 24, stars opposite Armeena Rana Khan in a light-hearted short-film, Love…It’s Never Easy.

Armeena is a Canadian actress with South Asian roots and now lives in the United Kingdom.

She has starred in various music videos, major commercial campaigns, soaps and films.

A student of art and classical theatre, Rafi has shared the stage with Shah Rukh Khan, in Holland in July 2011.

He started his career at the age of 18 with just a two minute role of a zookeeper, in Yann Martells Life of Pi, which was a national tour directed by Keith Robinson. He has also played roles in Bollywood films like Cocktail and had parts in Tezz.

He said: “I think when I was born the first thing I saw was a Bollywood film with all greats such as Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Aamir Khan, Salman khan and Shah Rukh Khan.”

He has now set up his own production company, Yrulan Yrizz Productions Ltd.

“Initially I had no intention of making a short film. I wanted to go all out and make the full feature film. “Joel Wata, a friend of mine who works for Film Birmingham, suggested that I should make a short film of it and present it to companies who might fund it.

“So I took two important scenes from the script, blended them together and within weeks I was ready to film Love...It's Never Easy.

“It was the best experience of my life. I am sure audiences will like it.

“I am excited and so are a few producers who I have talked to about the product.

“It is the story of a small town boy from Bradford and a big city girl from Birmingham and it is a love story that everyone can relate to.”
