Labour MP Keith Vaz has been re-elected onto the party's influential National Executive Committee (NEC).
The former chairman of the Home Affairs select committee won the race to be the black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) representative on the NEC, party sources confirmed.
The election was seen as part of a wider struggle for control of the party between far-left Jeremy Corbyn supporters and more established figures in the Labour hierarchy.
Grassroots pro-Corbyn campaign group Momentum made a video supporting Asghar Khan, a Labour councillor in Leeds, for the role representing BAME Labour on the NEC.
Mr Khan had said Labour needed more grassroots BAME voices from outside Westminster on the NEC, adding that the NEC "shouldn't be the preserve of MPs".
