Listeners at a Sikh Radio station helped to raise over £100,000 during a fundraising drive.

Staff at Panjab Radio handed over a cheque for £101,268.81 to Sikh Relief.

In September 2016, the team at Panjab Radio dedicated their live broadcasting to raise funds for the charity.

In 2015 a similar 16-hour continuous broadcast raised over £70,000 .

This weekend, Mr Surjit Singh Ghuman, owner of Panjab Radio, invited the Sikh Relief team to Panjab Radio studios to collect a cheque for the record-breaking figure of £101,268.81.

Sikh Relief is a UK registered charity, with it's primary aim being the legal and family welfare of Sikh political prisoners languishing in India's jails.

Other core projects undertaken by Sikh Relief, include children's education, disability aid, care of the elderly, dharam parchaar and environmental initiatives.

Present at the presentation were; Varinder Sharma MP, Councillor Surinder Singh Purewal, Chaman Lal Chaman, Sewa Singh Lalli, Baldev Singh (Sikh Council) and Gurpreet Singh (Kesri Lehar).
