A speeding driver who ignored red lights and took to the wrong side of the road during a police chase has been jailed for 14 months.
A two-minute video released by West Midlands Police shows Yassir Ali narrowly missing oncoming vehicles during the hair-raising pursuit in Birmingham.
Ali, of no fixed abode, was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court last month after admitting dangerous driving.
The police footage, filmed on a dashboard camera, shows traffic officers tracking the 29-year-old after he drove off in a silver BMW 1 Series.
The vehicle initially pulled over for a patrol car but Ali's passenger then attempted to obstruct the vehicle as he drove away at high speed.
Ali was eventually forced to a halt when the BMW became wedged between a bollard and a shop front in Bristol Road on February 22.
Pc Neal Drew, from the central motorway policing group, said: "Ali's actions that day were completely unacceptable and, by driving the way he did, he put innocent members of the public at risk.
"We take this kind of dangerous driving extremely seriously and that has been reflected in the lengthy sentence handed down by the courts."
