Ramadan is a chance for me as a Christian to reprioritise my own faith.

As I support my Muslim friends and neighbours through their month of fasting, reading the sacred words of scripture, alms giving and the sharing of hospitality I rediscover that these are foundational aspects of what it means to be a Christian.

I am challenged to be a better follower of my own tradition - and it is surely significant that this challenge comes through the followers of another faith. God speaks to me through the Muslim community as he invites us all to achieve a better balance in our lives.

Mahatma Gandhi was once asked if his task was to convert Christians to Hinduism. He replied "No, my task is to help them to be better Christians".

I thank God in Ramadan for my friends in Lancashire who inspire me to be a better follower of my faith than I could otherwise possibly be.

My hope and prayer is that we can use this as a springboard to inspire the whole community to focus on values that will lead to the sort of human flourishing and well-being we all want and which is the divine wish for each of us.
