A man who had his BMW vehicle stolen has appeared on Crimewatch in a bid to trace down the thief.

Detectives appealed to viewers of Crimewatch Roadshow to identify the criminal who stole Abu Bakr Satia’s car and ran him over while escaping.

Mr Satia revealed the events of that day on the programme. He sustained ‘serious leg injuries’ when the thief drove his £35,000 black 335i model over him as he was visiting RI Tyres in Whalley Banks, Blackburn in March.

Police said they later found the car abandoned in the Farnworth area of Bolton.

CCTV footage of the moment the car was taken shows a man in a ‘hi-vis’ vest walk across the forecourt, climb into the car, with its engine running , and reverse into the road.

Mr Satia who runs a travel business Satia Tours told Crimewatch, “I have always liked my cars. The car I always I wanted is a BMW M5 but my wife won’t let me buy it.

“At the moment I have a BMW 335i. It is a very rare model and spec.”

Speaking on the programme friend Feroz Suleman of R1 Tyres said, “Abu brought his car to us because he had an overheating problem on it. He left his car running outside to show one of the staff members the car was overheating.”

Mr Satia told the programme, “We heard one of his staff shouting and we looked at the camera and that’s when we realised that someone’s got into the car.”

“I just wanted to get my car back. I went into the driver’s side and tried to switch the car off.”

The thief then drove off with Mr Satia dragged along the road. He was left with serious leg injuries and bleeding in the road.

He added, “It has affected me mentally and physically. I am struggling to get about. I am struggling to sleep and I have flashbacks."

Detective Tim Brown from Lancashire Constabulary said, "The person responsible for this has committed the act in the middle of the day on a busy high street. It was only a few metres within the people working at the premises there.

"As you see from the footage the reckless driving has complete disregard for the people surrounding the vehicle."
