Mosques and a team of volunteers collected over £8000 for the East Lancashire Hospice.

Mosque representatives joined volunteers at the East Lancashire Hospice this morning to present the money.

The fund raising drive aimed to assist the Hospice which relies heavily on local donations.

East Lancashire Hospice is a registered charity which provides specialist palliative care to patients coping with life limiting illnesses from Blackburn Darwen Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

The mosques making donations included: Masjid e Sajedeen (£524.40); Masjid-e-Hidayah (£713.60); Masjid-e-Irfan (£640.73); Masjid Talim-ul-Islam (£120); Al-Asr Masjid ( £739.57); Masjid-e-Anisul Islam (£3400); Masjid Quwwatul Islam (£192.05) and Masjid-Bilaal (£307.73).

There was a donation of £184.21 from the Beardwood Muslim Association.

In the run-up to Christmas a team of volunteers spent time collecting a fantastic £2005 from shoppers in the Blackburn Mall.

In total £8,827.20 was presented to the Hospice today.

Cllr Suleman Khonat welcomed the volunteers and mosque representatives to the Hospice and thanked them all for assisting the centre. He was keen to stress the need to continue to support the Hospice.

He said, “It was a wonderful effort by all the mosques and volunteers and I would like to thank everyone who donated to this worthy cause.”

Sharon Crymble, Fundraising Manager said, "Here at East Lancashire Hospice we are so grateful to the mosques, Suleman Khonat and everyone involved in the collections, for giving their time freely to raise money that will go directly to providing care and support to local people who are coping with an illness that cannot be cured. 

“We simply could not provide this care that is free to our patients without their support and for that we are truly grateful.”
