Madrassah children have been learning about road safety thanks to the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and the Inter Madrassah Organisation (IMO).

Presentations have been delivered to around 2000 children at different assemblies to address issues of road safety.

Recreational Lead for IMO Mohammed Haider, said: ‘We’re very grateful to Lancashire Partnership For Road Safety who provided 2000 high visibility vests for children attending madrassahs, and to Lancashire Fire and Rescue for delivering child friendly informative assemblies; both will be put to extremely good use.

‘The safety of young pupils is one of our top priorities. The high visibility vests will allow the children to be visible to motorists on the way to madrassah and whilst on trips, especially now that it’s approaching winter and it is becoming darker earlier’.

Community Fire Safety Team Leader, Wes Truran was involved in the delivery of some of these sessions and added: ‘Road safety is a key issue for us at Lancashire Fire and Rescue, not least because we are seeing the number of road traffic collisions were are attending go up.

"So being able to assist in getting road safety messages out to the community is really important.

"The fact that we were able to deliver to these young children means there’s a chance they’ll not only pass on what they have learned but keep it with them in later life.’ Rhiannon Leeds, the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety Coordinator said ‘We are proud to be able to support projects like this and help make a contribution to making communities safer’.

Board Member for IMO, Shahid Patel added,‘We’re very happy we can help the young children of our town by supporting them in securing these vests, IMO’s only regret is that it could not support all the young children of the borough, as the funds were limited’.

Parents are advised to make sure their children wear these high visibility vests when going and coming from school /madrassah in the winter months, it is essential young children are safe.
