POLICE are hunting a hit and run driver who injured a four-year-old girl.

The youngster suffered a leg injury after being hit by a new-style black Vauxhall Astra in Peace Street at about 6.45pm on Saturday.

The incident took place near to the Zakariyya Mosque and the car left the scene before police arrived.

The girl is currently in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a leg injury.

Officers are now appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident.

Detective Inspector, Matt Bailey-Smith, from GMP’s Bolton borough, said: “Thankfully this young child is going to recover from what has been a really traumatic experience, both for her and her parents – this could have had devastating consequences.

“I would appeal directly to the driver of the car to come forward to police while I would also ask any witnesses to call us.

“If you saw a similar car in the area around the time of the collision, you could also hold vital information to help us trace the driver.”
