AFTER many months apart these two inseparable brothers are back together at home.

Six-year-old Yahya Patel is out of hospital after after older brother Abdullah donated bone marrow for a transplant which will help his younger sibling fight the rare condition, Diamond Blackfan Anaemia.

Yahya is now recovering with his family at their Great Lever home and even managed to attend the end of term party at his school, Pikes Lane Primary in Deane.

The youngster's condition means that his bone marrow fails to make enough red blood cells and transplant was the only real solution to improving his quality of life.

Dad Zayd said: "Yahya has been home for two months and is doing well.

"He was readmitted back into hospital because he caught a virus, but now he is getting back to his usual self and playing and running around with his brother.

"We were able to take him to the school party, it was a last minute decision and he managed to stay for an hour."

Mr Patel added: "Abdullah is fine, he recovered very quickly which we expected.

"Yahya is pleased to be home again. If the weather is good we are able to take him to the park and we hope that he may be able to go back to school in October."

The condition meant that Yahya had to undergo regular blood transfusions.

Mr Patel said: “The transplant will allow him to lead a normal life, there will be less hospital visits and he won’t need blood transfusions.”

He added: “I am immensely proud of the children.

“They are so resilient, seeing Yahya go through and come out of the treatment"

The family are now raising money for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to say thank you to the “amazing” team for the care and treatment they have given to Yahya.

The youngster’s parents are also huge supporters of The Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Charity, which supports families of children with the rare illness.

Mr Patel said: “It made a big difference to us to speak to families who have gone through the same experience because it gives you confidence.

“We are now speaking to a family who are considering the same treatment as Yahya.”
