A nine-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car, police said.
The boy, who has has been named locally as Adam Limbada , was crossing Whalley New Road with his father, near to the junction with Plane Street, at around 10.55pm last night when he was hit by a BMW 4 Series.
He was taken to hospital with multiple injuries but was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the BMW, a 25-year-old man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody.
A police spokesman said: "A nine-year-old boy was crossing Whalley New Road in Blackburn at around 10.55pm last night when he was in collision with a BMW 4 Series.
"The boy suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital but sadly died.
"The driver of the BMW, who is a 25-year-old man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in custody."
PS David Hurst of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a young boy has sadly died and my thoughts very much remain with his family at this time.
"An investigation is underway and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision to contact us as soon as possible.”
Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1712 of August 4.
