A man who helped to shape how many of today’s Asian weddings are staged received the Judges Award for Outstanding Contribution award at the second Asian Wedding Awards.
Guests gathered at the Manchester Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel to celebrate the contribution of the Asian wedding industry this week.
The event was hosted by Neetal Parekh and Raj Parmer and held association with Graphistudio UK, Costco Wholesale and Unbranded Manchester.
A total of 18 awards were presented on the night.
Daud Jiva, aged 72 is a Bolton based stage decorator who over 20 years ago was one of the first to innovate and create original stage designs for Asian weddings in the area.

Wedding stage designs remain the focal point for many Asian weddings and Mr Jiva became a familiar face at many celebrations in the NorthWest using his skills to create unique features for couples.

He was invited to the stage with his wife Zulekha Jiva to receive the award. A humble man to this day, he said, “I would like to thank everyone for their support and to the Asian Weddings Awards for this honour.”
Among the other winners on the night was Margaret Mason of Preston who was presented with the Florist of the year Award.
Entertainer of the year Sonaash Entertainment
A visibly shocked Margaret said, “I am simply overwhelmed with this award. I have been doing this job for many years and this was a nice surprise.”

The AWE Asian Wedding Awards are now in the second year and aims to reward creativity and inspiration of 1000’s of the Asian wedding industry’s finest suppliers, businesses and individuals across the country and acknowledges them for making brides and grooms’ wedding dreams become a reality.

Monir Ali, photographer and co-founder of The Asian Wedding Awards said, “It was wonderful to see so many people and companies here who do such a fanstastic job week in week out making special days that extra special.”
Toastmaster of the year Derek Timmins-Jones
Juel Khan, wedding planner and co-organiser of the Awards added, “This is our second year, our nominations have increased, and the level of quality we have seen is simply mind blowing.”
