Almost a tenth of babies and toddlers in England and Wales are recorded as Muslim, census figures show.
A breakdown of Britain's religions and age groups, available from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), shows there were 3.5 million children on the 2011 census aged zero to four years old, of whom 318,000 were recorded as Muslim.
This means just under 10% of under-fives are recorded as Muslim, compared with less than 5% among all age groups. Fewer than one in 200 over-85s are Muslims.
Around 43% or 1.5 million of children under the age of five are recorded as Christian, compared with 58% or 32.9 million across all age groups.
Elsewhere, the figures show that 1.2 million toddlers and babies were recorded as having no religion, while 4,672 were registered as Jedi knights, the fictional characters from the Star Wars movie franchise, 13 practised "witchcraft" and two were members of the occult.
