THE first baby has been born in Burnley’s new £32million Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre.
Parents Imran and Sonia Ali said they were delighted by the arrival of their son Zamin, who was born around 5.30pm on Monday weighing 8.5lbs.
Midwife Karen Swift said: “It’s a moment in history and it’s just what everyone’s been longing for.
"They were absolutely ecstatic, over-the-moon. They were really, really pleased that they were the first parents of this new unit.”
The multi-million pound centre, next to the Phase Five building, houses a newborn intensive care unit, an out-patients department, a theatre suite, a delivery suite and Burnley’s new birth centre.
