The Man of the year accolade went to council worker Oscar Brogden.

The award sponsored by Harwood Solicitors and rewarded Oscar for his monumental toy campaigns.

Oscar who was keen attended the awards in a wheelchair after recent foot surgery was delighted at winning.

He said, “It feels brilliant and unbelievable.

“I would like to thank everyone here tonight for the warm welcome they have given me.

“I couldn’t have done this work without Helen, Andrew and Barry. Since have had my operation they have helped me a lot.”

For many years Oscar, has been finding new ways to help out his community and those who are less fortunate than him.

One of his most popular campaigns has been the Christmas Toy appeal. He launched the donation scheme in 1997 – and this year's efforts saw more items than ever make their way to less disadvantaged young people.

Presents are handed to local social workers after being wrapped by Oscar and his team of volunteers.

Oscar has also helped to recycle over 3000 bikes! People give him old bikes and in his spare time he fixes them and pays for any parts out of his own pocket.

And once back in excellent condition, he hands them over to the community – free of charge.

He is also famous for reuniting thousands of lost wallets and purses – returning 1,780 to people as far afield as Australia and the United States.

Fusion 2013 finalist this year were: Jonny Wineberg, Zain Shabbir and Asif Khan
