UCLan’s Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise aims to nurture and develop global managers of the future through leading edge Business and Management programmes, shaped by the latest research, professional practice, innovative business insight and international opportunities.

Here Bushra Nosheen Khan, BA (Hons) Business and Management student shares her thoughts.

UCLan is situated in an ideal location: at the heart of Lancashire. Living in Blackburn, I commute daily which I feel has made me a lot more independent than I was before starting higher education.
There are always opportunities to experience something new here at UCLan, I have recently had the fantastic opportunity to travel to the Cyprus campus where I took part in a three-day leadership course along with students in the School.

This once in a lifetime opportunity enabled me to travel with friends and learn new skills that employers look for in graduates.
I enjoy having access to numerous facilities within UCLan - in the campus, there are several areas to socialise, study and research.
The library at UCLan, I believe, gives students an ideal setting to complete work whether it be using the individual quiet areas or the group study rooms.

Within the library, there are endless varieties of academic literature that can help you to complete assignments, along with help from lecturers online, through the use of ‘blackboard’ – our student portal.

The lecturers at UCLan have a friendly and approachable manner, making it easy for you to discuss any professional and personal matters.

Any matter that you do discuss with them remains confidential and anonymous - giving you the sense of security. Students are in addition, provided with Course Tutors and Career Advisors, so we always have someone to seek advice from.

I enjoy the fact that tutors are always available to speak to and are excellent at sharing resources to help you aim high.
With each building having PC labs available for use, students can always find a place to suit their needs.

Obviously, it is natural to be nervous at the start of university life, however, with the help of fresher’s week and induction week, it gives you a chance to meet and network with the other students on your course.

Societies are a great way to make new friends who have common interests as you and with UCLan having numerous societies, there is something you will definitely find which you enjoy.

Additionally, online groups on social media such as Facebook allow you to interact with your peers much earlier, as early as the summer break before starting in September!

This means you will already know students before you officially start.

Attending University is not the easiest of experiences, when you have to balance your work life, social life and education, but it is an experience where you can develop and learn - UCLan makes this experience a lot more enjoyable.

UCLan is always going the extra mile for students, one of the ways in which this is done is through a close relationship between lecturers and students through constructive feedback.

I have been nominated this year as Course Representative, gathering feedback from students on my course and relaying it back to the academic staff and making real changes to improve the course”.

The Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise offers a range of business and management related courses. Foundation entry route is also available.
