STUDENT programmers achieved the top accolade, taking home gold for their recycling project at regional finals.

Burnham Grammar School’s Team Outbreak won gold with their recycling robot, designed to pick up rubbish, while the team’s focus on ways to help people remember their bags – in conjunction with the latest government plastic charge – saw the proposal of an App to remind and reward for reusing bags, at the regional finals in Winchester on Thursday, December 10.

The school also entered Recycled Trevor a second team that came in third place and won the Best Presentation award.

Their project looked at anaerobic digesters and food waste, and the girls investigated how Burnham Grammar School’s canteen food waste could be recycled.

Gagandeeep Singh, from the winning team, said: “I am very proud of the team and our achievement.”

Bob Miles who runs the Science Club said: “Hard work during half term holidays and sessions before and after school really paid off! I am exceptionally proud not only of the result but the commitment of both our teams.”
