People were greeted with queues at the popular Mother Hubbard's Restaurant opened in Blackburn.

The restaurant was pen for it's first weekend and Sunday night saw people queuing outside the restaurant based on Preston New Road.

The restaurant has opened after recent renovations to the interior of the building which was once Mr Fu's Chinese Restaurant and later a 'Mahmood's'.

The new 2,200 sq ft restaurant seats approximately 80 people.

Aftab Habib, 42 said he wanted to know what all the fuss about, "I didn't think there would be a queue this big on the first few days but the wait wasn't that long.

"There were a lot of people from outside of town here too. I was speaking to one family who had travelled from Preston to eat here. "

Shamim Faisel, 31 said she waited in line for 20 minutes, "I think when ever something new opens in Blackburn you want to visit it.

"The food was good and the service was okay too. I wasn't too happy with the queue though.

"But that is what you expect on the first weekend. I hope it stays open longer than some of the other restaurants that have opened on this spot in recent years. It is good for Blackburn."

Ilyas Munshi, commercial director, Euro Garages said, “Mother Hubbard’s, Blackburn is a traditional family-style fish and chips and aims to bring the experience of a seaside resort locally to our town.

“We are proud to be investing in Blackburn and enabling local customers and visitors travelling into the town to access another premium, branded food and drink proposition.”

“We are confident Mother Hubbard’s will prove to be popular with customers.”

Tony Duckworth, president of the Blackburn with Darwen Chamber of Trade, said: “It’s a long-established restaurant location and I wish them all the best.

“I’m delighted companies are showing confidence in Blackburn and that jobs are being provided.”
