A law firm has announced the construction of their flagship headquarters building will begin next week.

Building work on the new Asons Solicitors offices in Bolton starts on Monday July 13 after the site was boarded off this week with completion scheduled for summer next year.

The £5m project, designed by Bolton-based architects Bradshaw Gass & Hope will help to bring Bolton’s town centre into a new era of modern architecture and commercial redevelopment. The contract for the construction has been awarded to Cruden Construction of Warrington.

The four storey building will sit upon a prime location at the major crossroads in the north side of the town where Topp Way and St Peter’s Way meet.

The 48,000 ft2 project is on Clarence Street in the All Saints district of Bolton.

The site was previously a location for a Bolton Metropolitan College campus but also, was once home to residences including the first home for the Akram family, whose sons are the directors of Asons.

The sons, including CEO Imran and Principal Director Kamran, are all grown men now and have their own homes, but once the new building is complete, this curious twist of fate means that they will be returning to their first family plot.

Cruden, which are part of Headcrown Group Plc, has won various awards including several health and safety awards from ROSPA, 21 ‘Considerate Constructor’ awards, 13 ‘Quality of Construction’ awards and, like Asons, has been recognised by the Sunday Times Top 100 ‘Best Companies to Work For’.

Cruden’s previous work includes a varied selection of construction and refurbishment projects including mixed-use development Commutation Plaza in Liverpool, the new Salford headquarters for telecoms specialist Nimans, Manchester's Heron House office building, Campbell Square in Liverpool's Ropewalks district and the currently progressing Union Road housing development in Bolton for the Great Places Housing Group.

The Cruden Group includes divisions providing construction, energy services and property services.

David Dickie, Cruden Construction’s Business Development Director, has been with Cruden for over 15 years and in the industry for 30.

He said, “Both Asons and Cruden focus on customer satisfaction as their number one priority and both organisations have great corporate social responsibility credentials, committing resources and efforts towards helping North West communities prosper.”

Bradshaw Gass & Hope have provided specs for what will be a stunning building at a Bolton gateway.

The firm was founded in 1862 and has been responsible for the design of buildings such as the Royal Exchange in Manchester, Luton Town Hall, Rochdale Fire Station, Selby Leisure Centre and the Bolton Arena National Tennis Centre. They also won in the Best Innovative Design category and were commended in the Best Property category at the Northern Design Awards 2012.

David Hamer has been at Bradshaw Gass & Hope for 20 years and is an Architectural Partner with the firm. Insider Magazine named him as one of the top 20 architecture professionals in the North West in their August 2013 edition.

He said, “It is a fantastic feeling, after two years of design development work, to finally see the realisation of an amazing piece of architecture that will transform the Bolton skyline. Working with Asons Solicitors on the project has been an unforgettable experience and we know this will continue as the construction phase starts and Cruden Construction are introduced into the team to deliver this iconic building project".

Dr Imran Akram, CEO of Asons Solicitors, said: “These are exciting times for Asons as we build for our future. During the next 12 months we will be putting into place our recruitment plan of retaining 300 jobs and creating a further 300 over the coming years.

“We are looking forward to moving into other areas of law, bringing exciting new products to the legal market like we have done so far, giving the client an all new experience. We have a great team working with us - Cruden & BGH - to make our vision a reality.”

Asons Solicitors is the largest single and independent private employer in Bolton with around 250 full-time and permanent employees. It’s one of the largest legal workforces in the North West.

When the staff make the transfer over to the new offices in summer 2016, the firm plans to swell their numbers by up to 300 more employees and to diversify into other avenues of the law.

The construction work starts at Clarence Street on July 13 2015 and completion is scheduled for summer next year.
