The Ministry of Tourism in India has officially launched their interactive website - incredibleindia.org - at the World Travel Market (WTM).

The Ministry has invested heavily in facilities and infrastructure to promote the Himalayas and North Eastern states and the website acts as its gateway.

It boasts a unique virtual walking tours service which gives users 360-degree views of the roads they will walk on, destinations while also displaying places of interest, hotels and connections to make travel bookings.

"This new website is fully interactive and gives travellers all they need from planning a tour to making reservations,” said Mr Parvez Dewan, the Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Tourism on the opening day of the WTM, in London.

It allows tourists to access, tag and review ‘points of interests’ such as hotels, shops, monuments, parks and also view the interiors of several key locations, all powered by a database of hundred of thousands of places.

The Ministry of Tourism has set the target of providing one ‘Walking Tour’ in each Indian State within two years.

The new website is bolstered by a campaign titled “777 days of the Incredible Indian Himalayas” which was unveiled at the WTM with two one-minute films - The Greatest Show on Earth and Life Altering Journey.

Mr Dewan emphasized that 73 % of the Himalayas are actually in India spanning six states that serve up ski-holidays in Winter, bio-diversity hotspots in the Spring and leisure and cultural activities 365 days a year.
