HUNDREDS of members of the Sikh community enjoyed their annual Vaisakhi parade through Bradford today, bringing vibrant colours to the streets.
The procession, preceded by drumming and led by five Panj Piyare, in orange robes, began at 10.30am at the Gurdwara Singh Sabha temple, in Grant Street.
The procession was followed by hundreds of people, many dressed in orange, the traditional colour of the Khalsa.
The parade and festival is a time for singing, celebration and colour.
It is known as the Nagar Kirtan and the Bradford event is said to be the biggest of its kind in Yorkshire.
After leaving Grant Street the procession followed a route along Otley Road to Bolton Road before heading back towards the city centre and along Wakefield Road.
The parade takes in all of the city’s Sikh temples which were all bedecked in flags for the occasion.
Heading the parade was a float and canopy which carried the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sikhism’s holy text, followed by the congregation with music and singing.
