The founder of the Nawaab Restaurant in Manchester was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution accolade at the Asian Wedding Awards.
Mahboob Hussain from the Royal Nawaab Manchester took a chance when he transformed an old cinema into a wedding banqueting suite. The decision has in many ways revolutionised how Asian weddings were celebrated.
The ceremony at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel celebrated the very best of Asian wedding suppliers from wedding planners to card makers.
Special Contribution - Robert Bell
Tributes were also paid to two of the wedding industry’s most respected professionals at the annual Asian Wedding Awards in Manchester.
Tarla Somaiya, of Payal Events, and Robert Bell, of Barkers Catering Equipment Hire, both of whom who passed away in the last 12 months, and were described on the night as trailblazers in the Asian Wedding Industry.
The Gala Dinner now in its fourth year was hosted by Harpinder Kaur, of the BBC Asian Network.
The evening ended with two special judge’s awards The Penny Appeal Wedding Professional of the Year, the first of which was presented to Vanessa Myers, of the Sheridan Suite.
Monir Ali said: “Another amazing year, and it’s great to see business and individuals be rewarded for the 12 months of hard work.”
Juel Khan, of Simplicity Events, said: “It’s great to see our colleagues embracing the ethos of the awards and each year pushing the limits for creativity, innovation and customer service, which is having a major impact on the way clients are looking for services.”
DJ Fritz, of Supreme Dream added “The fourth year of the show, and the Awards are now building momentum to be a bigger event with a national presence."
