The daughter of the first Asian female councillor in Chorley is competing at this Thursday's local elections.

Zara Khan, who is the daughter of Cllr Hasina Khan is standing as the Labour candidate in the Chorley East ward.

Zara is a student nurse based at Chorley hospital. She said, “I know that people want good quality local services. I have campaigned on a number of issues to help improve our area, in particular bringing forward employment sides that local people in particular young people, can gain access to work.”

Cllr Hasina Khan has been an active campaigner in attempting to increase the number of Asian women in politics.

Also standing in Chorley East are Aidy Riggott (Conservative) and Christopher Suart (UK Independence Party)
