Yesterday, two men brutally murdered a soldier in broad daylight in London.

There are no words to describe just how horrific and barbaric the attack was.

These murderers shouted “Allahu Akhbar” as they committed their atrocious crimes.

I got home from work and switched on the news and watched all of the day’s developments I was left with a feeling of extreme disgust and sadness.

Quite like the majority of Muslims in the UK I suspect. The Prime Minister David Cameron said "recognised and commended" the response of the Muslim community following the murder.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has urged Londoners to go about their days in the normal way following the murder.

"It is completely wrong to blame this killing on the religion of Islam," he said.

Sadly, not everyone shares their sentiments.

Far right bigots the English Defence League (EDL) had street battles with the Police in Woolwich. They threw bottles at the Police and chanted anti- Muslim slogans (too offensive to mention).

Tommy Robinson leader of the EDL said “They’re chopping our soldiers’ heads off, this is Islam. Our next generation are being taught through schools that Islam is a peaceful religion. It is not. It never has been. What you saw today is Islam. Everyone’s had enough. There has to be a reaction for the government to listen, for the public to listen to understand how angry the British public are”.

This sounds like Robinson is inciting religious hatred to me...

Of course, it’s not shocking that the far right would use this tragedy in order to promote their ideology of hate, but this is in poor taste, even for the likes of them. Innocent Muslims are now being targeted as a direct result of this.

Yesterday a 43-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of attempted arson after reportedly walking into a mosque with a knife in Braintree, Essex.

Police in Kent were called to reports of criminal damage at a mosque in Canterbury Street, Gillingham. A spokesman said a man is in custody on suspicion of racially-aggravated criminal damage.

It is so important that as a community Muslims voice our disgust about what happened to that innocent soldier. Those vile murderers do not speak in our name.

Islam is a faith that promotes peace and whilst we can’t stop groups of hate such as the EDL spewing their vile rhetoric... we can speak out about how violence should never be part of our faith.

This quote from The Quran is most appropriate “…if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people”
