EIGHT air cadets from 372 (Barry) Squadron have been successful in achieving their youth first aid qualification (YFA).
The YFA course is designed to give young people the skills needed to give basic first aid, and combines a mix of classroom lectures with hands-on training with a series of practical scenarios for the cadets to put into practice their new skills. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed the training which culminated in a practical assessment to achieve their certificate.
The cadets' intensive training over two days covered asthma, bites and stings, bleeding, shock, bone, muscle and joint injuries, burns and scalds, chest pains, choking, casualty care, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, recovery position and resuscitation (adult).
The successful cadets were Jordan Saunders, Vicky Williams, Jake Paterson, Ellie and Zena Poulakis, Jamie-Leigh Bird, Pippa Cowles and Chloe Swain.
Jake Paterson said: "I really enjoyed the course and it was fun. I believe that everyone should learn first aid as it could potentially save someone's life."
Lisa Shires, who trained the cadets, said: "Well done to everyone who passed. I'm glad that all the cadets enjoyed the course and learnt a great deal from it. This course proves that it's never too early to start learning first aid skills."
As well as adventure training, the cadets also enjoy flying, gliding, shooting, sports, visits, air shows, overseas trips, leadership and citizenship training in a full and action packed training programme.
