Famous words. What is it with the modern Asian man's obsession to prove he is different from his peer's and more like a non-Asian?

As if being an Asian in today's climate is a bad thing.

This is about the male ego and his all important image. When did the Asian man start aspiring to be a coconut?

He studies at university, wears designer suits, get a good paying job. But he still wants his 'roti handi' when he comes home.

He goes on European holidays rather the annual visit to Pakistan like his parents. He learns the local European dialect. Goes sight seeing. Yet still worries he'll get a tan and his 'rung' become inadvertently 'kaala.'

He refers to dining in a restaurant as 'food from outside.'

He'll take his wife to the theatre and his children to the museum. But a night out with the lads entails the same sheesha bar every time.

And without a doubt the very same man who claims to be 'different' still expects his wife to make the perfect chapatti.

He vehemently detests Asian dramas, Asian channels, bollywood movies etc. He goes out clubbing and drinking, visiting casinos- all part of the anti desi persona.

Me evolved Asian man, innit. Yet he's the same man who will send his kids to the mosque everyday after school.

He'll pick his own wife and look down upon his peers who have married a cousin from back home. But he'll still have the traditional ostentatious deficit inducing wedding.

He picks modern names for his children, buys them the latest Nintendo DS game, takes them to the cinema to see the latest releases.

Yet somehow his kids, like every other Asian kid seems to be top of the class.

They say you can take him out of the pind but you can't take the pind out of him.

I'm not like other Asian blokes. Who are you kidding bro? You're all the same.
