The glitzy awards night held at the Bandra-Kurla complex in Mumbai saw the biggies of Bollywood make an appearance. But it was Salman’s Dabangg that stole the show.

Performances by the who’s-who of Bollywood such as Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra.

An appearance by Rani Mukherjee and Rishi Kapoor. Usha Uthup sporting a special ‘Mirchi-embroidered’ sari, along with the flashy Bappi Lahiri. These well-known names and more kept people entertained through the live-music extravaganza held on the 27 January in Mumbai.

The show was anchored by Shaan and Sonu Nigam and awards were handed out in as many as 22 musical categories.

The Jury was chaired by Javed Akhtar and also consisted of a bevy of other well-known names such as Aadesh Srivastava, Alka Yagnik, Anu Malik, Kailash Kher, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Lalit Pandit, Louiz Banks, Prasoon Joshi, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ramesh Sippy, Shankar Mahadevan, Sadhana Sargam, Subhash Ghai and Suresh Wadekar.

Dabangg clearly emerged the winner as Munni Badnaam Hui and the title song Dabanng bagged the Best Song (Munni), Best Album, best female vocalist (Mamta Sharma), Best upcoming Singer (Mamta Sharma), Best Male Vocalist (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan), Best Music Director (Sajid-Wajid), Best Item Number (Munni), and Best Background Score (Sandeep Shirodkar).

The show also had several electrifying performances to keep audiences entertained. For the first time together on stage were Daler Mehndi and Mika who set the stage on fire with Zor Ka Jhatka, Ibn E Batuta, Tunak Tunak Tun, Sheela Ho Ya Munni, Muaja Hi Muaja and other up-beat numbers.

Duo Vishal-Shekhar, live on stage for the first time had audiences grooving to Sheila Ki Jawani, Anjaana Anjaani, I hate Love stories etc. The trio of Usha Uthup, Bappi Lahiri and DJ Lloyd turned the clock behind and performed retro re-mixes of I am a Disco Dancer, Rambo Ho, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, Nakabandi and Outro.

Gen-next performers like Neha Bhasin, Master Saleem, Anushka Manchanda, Mamta Sharma upped the tempo with sings such as Kucch Khas Hai Let’s Rock and Munni.
