FIFA is a game that needs no introduction. It’s a series that started 1995, and had a lot of tough battles against competitor ISS/PES (International Superstar Soccer, which eventually became Pro Evolution Soccer).

Up until FIFA 07 it would be fair to say PES was universally regarded as the better game, but suddenly the guys at EA moved up a gear and the improvement was there for all to see.

With the roles now reversed, FIFA 10 is currently enjoying its position at the top. But is there enough difference between FIFA 10 and 2010 FWC to warrant spending another £40 after just six months?

There is no simple answer.

If you play sports games casually, then no, but if you appreciate the complexities of simulating football, then yes.

There are enough game modes in there to keep you busy until FIFA 11, and being restricted to national teams is less frustrating than you’d think because practically all of the teams involved in the qualifying stages of the World Cup are present in the game.

Passing is better, shooting is better, dribbling is more accurate and you see a lot more of an accurate representation of football.

The presentation uses all of the official FIFA World Cup graphics, and a few simple tweaks to the lighting effects makes literally everything in the game look much more realistic.

Honestly, I am a big football fan and a big FIFA fan so the extra cost of an additional game was never going to put me off buying the game; the only thing that could have done that was if the game didn’t show enough signs of improvement.

As far as I’m concerned, although the changes are small, the final sum of all those changes makes this the best football game yet. 9/10
