The abhorrent terrorist group, neither 'Islamic' nor a 'state' continues to be addressed by the name yet that could be a cause for change considering MP's latest proposal to refer to the group as 'so- called Islamic State'.

Two words that detach innocent British civilians from crimes against humanity.

The terror group which started as part of the notorious Al-Qaeda, first called itself Islamic State, but in June 2014 self-appointed itself as a 'caliphate' deluding themselves further into thinking their terror rampage has any credibility whatsoever.

The negative connotation made with the phrase Islamic State “gives legitimacy to a terrorist organisation that is not Islamic, nor has it been recognised as a state and which a vast number of Muslims around the world regard as despicable and insulting to their peaceful religion” groups such as the Islamic Society of Britain and the Association of Muslim Lawyers state in their letter to the PM.

In the efforts to protest the two joined forces to relay the fact that: “It is neither Islamic, nor is it a state. The group has no standing with faithful Muslims, nor among the international community of nations".

Surprisingly, David Cameron agreed and backed the petition which consisted of 120 MP's sent to the BBC Director General, Tony Hall. Members of the petition itself included figures such as Alex Salmond and Boris Johnson. Cameron corroborated his views earlier on Monday in a stint on Radio 4, with presenter John Humphreys.

He argued, “I wish the BBC would stop calling it Islamic State because it’s not an Islamic state.” He further stated, “what it is, is an appalling, barbarous regime … It’s a perversion of the religion of Islam and many Muslims listening to this programme will recoil every time they hear the words Islamic State" Truer words have never been told, well at least not by this Tory PM.

The BBC replied with a statement, with claims such as “no one listening to our reporting could be in any doubt what kind of organisation this is, we call the group by the name it uses itself, and regularly review our approach. We also use additional descriptions to help make it clear we are referring to the group as they refer to themselves, such as ‘so-called Islamic State’.”

Whilst this may be the case, the root of the problem has been considerably cut down albeit not all. Now that Muslims have a chance to detach themselves our focus should return on bettering our communities by establishment of solid and prospering institutions within our locality.

Easy to say, definitely, but hey, it's Ramadan, some optimism is surely allowed right?
