But there will always be an extreme minority who are prone to such idiotic rhetoric.

The poppy headscarf, designed by a British Muslim fashion designer is being sold for £22 to mark Remembrance Day.

24-year-old student at the London College of Fashion, Tabinda-Kauser Ishaq said, "The idea to do a headscarf came from knowing that many Muslims generally mark Remembrance Day.

"We felt it wasn't that widely known.

"The number of Muslim soldiers who fought in World War One was even less known. We wanted to create something that illustrated that history."

Around 400,000 Muslim soldiers risked their lives for Britain during the conflict, also known as the Great War, from 1914 to 1918.

Yet this fact seems to be ignored by the modern day laptop warriors who use Twitter to spew nonsensical trite: “Sticking Poppy's on our hats & scarves because we so badly want to be accepted by the west. Lol”

“I'm outraged at the fact that the ISB want me to wear a #poppyhijab. My hijaab is symbolic of my religious conviction not a billboard”

“After the #poppyhijab what next? Father Christmas turbans? Union Jack shalwar kameez?”

Why not?

As recent as 3 years ago a Muslim group called ‘Muslims Against Crusades’ caused national outrage after burning a poppy on Remembrance Day whilst shouting ‘British soldiers burn in hell.’ Tabinda said, "Poppies are obviously the most prominent thing we associate with Remembrance Day and the hijab is something which is commonly associated with Muslims, so we married the two together to try and produce something which hopefully people see as positive.

“I hope the poppy headscarf gives Muslim women a new way to mark Remembrance Day and to help raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

“It’s a simple way to say you’re proudly British and proudly Muslim.”
