A stunning free-kick helped Glodwick Dynamoes to the Under 21s cup victory.

The Oldham side gave up an early lead against an ASC Face side who were hoping to win the cup on home soil.

Both sides played some enterprising football early and Glodwick went ahead to the impressive Sameer Islam. It seemed to spur Face on who pressed for long period before a great move found the impressive Maz who squeezed his shot past the despairing Glodwick keeper.

The end-to-end football continued and Glodwick found their way back in front after another quick break away this time through Ibra.

Back came Face again after some concerted pressure. At 2-2 Face were the better side and looked the more likely to score. Twice they managed to break through the Glodwick defence and spurned some good opportunities to win the cup.

They also had a good penalty shout denied.

As things heated up Face were down ten men and then nine due to the sin bin rule. Still they manage to create two further chances and credit must go to those players who battled on for the win.

With minutes to go Glodwick won a free-kick.  It looked a little too far out to have any real impact but Islam was having one of those magical days. His shot found its way into the top corner to hand Glodwick the cup.

What had been a good game for the neutral for up to 70 minutes was spoiled as some ASC Face players stopped playing football and were more concerned with settling petty arguments with the officials.

Players and managers need to take responsibility for their own actions rather than continue to pass the blame elsewhere.

Despite this, let’s take nothing away from a Glodwick team who managed to come through two difficult games and played some entertaining football to win the cup.

The LFA are presently investigating a post-match incident.
