Two Oldham sides came out top in a regional football tournament.

Coppice United won the Over 35s section whilst, Glodwick Dynamoes were triumphant in the Under 21s.

Games were played over four weeks at Witton Park 3G Pitches in Blackburn with the finals taking place over one day (Sunday August 8)

Following on from another disrupted season due to Covid, players and fans were almost relieved to be able to play football again and participate in the annual knockout.

In the under 21s final of the Star Tissue UK Football Championships Glodwick Dynamoes gave up an early lead against an ASC Face side who were hoping to win the cup on home soil.

The end-to-end football continued and Glodwick found their way back in front after another quick break away this time through Ibra.

Back came Face again after some concerted pressure.  As things heated up Face were down ten men and then nine due to the sin bin rule. With minutes to go Glodwick won a free-kick. It looked a little too far out to have any real impact but Islam was having one of those magical days. His shot found its way into the top corner to hand Glodwick the cup.

In the Over 35s Coppice looked in control early on and finally got ahead from a header from Kesar. Blackburn fought back and were unlucky with a good penalty shout early in the second half. They spurned another great opportunity to get level.

Coppice though were not about to give up any further chances and scored two more to win the cup.

They were deserved winners in the end to make it a memorable few weeks for Oldham in a tournament which featured teams from Preston, Bolton and Nelson.

In the open age category Bolton’s Crompton FC came from two goals down to beat Bradford’s Route One Rovers.
