Scintilla CC were crowned kings of the Essex County Cricket League Premier Division after a thrilling end to the season.

The team wrapped up the final match of the season against Walthamstow CC with a victory of 80 runs.

With the Championship on the horizon, Scintilla won the toss and chose to bat on a seemingly hard and flat wicket.

Skipper Faris Almas-Lee Rosmanizam stuck with his winning batting lineup, and opened the innings with Sajal Rahman. Both batsmen were comfortable with the new ball until Rahman was dismissed in the 10th over. Several small partnerships were built in between but wickets also tumbled with alarming regularity. Nevertheless, Rosmanizam played a captain's innings.

He was dominant at the crease and anchored from one end, top scoring with a dogged 77 runs before getting caught in the slips during the 36th over. Ashfaqur Rahaman Nobel, Enamul Haque Jr, Md Asheeq Ul Alam and Ayaz Karim were among the other batsmen who contributed to the run total. It was Ayaz Karim’s gargantuan six which took the champions run total to 200 in the 43rd over and secured the championship for Scintilla. With Walthamstow CC coming in to bat Abul Hasib and Aaman Khan displayed over 12 overs, arguably the best display of corridor bowling all season.

The spell included 10 overs of Powerplay from Walthamstow. Strict line and length deliveries were bowled and the run rate was kept at a low of 2.5 runs per over.

Scintilla CC were hungry for wickets and the introduction of Sajal Rahman was another turning point. He claimed 6 wickets for 26 runs in his 9 allotted overs.

Walthamstow CC have always been troubled by Rahman’s bowling and experienced the same treatment again in this match with plenty of sudden off-cutters and late out-swingers causing mayhem.

Enamul Haque Jr and the other bowlers picked up the remaining wickets to see off Walthamstow for a mere 120 runs.

Prior to this season Scintilla Cricket Club had won three consecutive promotions before consolidating third position in the Premier Division for the last three years.

They completed an amazing rise to the top by clinching the league.

Rosmanizam said: “It is a great moment, winning the championship in only our fourth year in the Premier division.

"The players have been really committed, played their hearts out and were consistent with their performances all throughout.

"Our performance graph match after match has been an amazing incline and it has only been possible because we have shared a goal and shared a purpose, which is to claim the championship title and make winning our habit. We absolutely deserve this day in the sun and we look forward to next season and more success stories.”

Club captain Ahmed Choudhury said: "All this is the culmination of a year of tremendous grafting. It's an amazing day and we look forward to many more positive dreams being achieved.

"This has been an emotional and memorable journey for all of us and I'd like to thank everyone who has travelled the path with us over the years."

Ayaz Choudhury said: " I was unaware that my six secured our claim to the championship. This is dedicated to the club and I'm delighted to have placed the cherry on the cake of such a memorable piece of collective success."

Players secretary and wicket keeper Bellal Hossain said: "This is indeed a hugely memorable day and I consider myself fortunate to be amongst such a titanic group. We will enjoy these memories for a very long time. I hope this is that start of great success for Scintilla CC."

Bangladeshi test spinner Enamul Haque Junior said: "The standard of cricket played by the boys has been tremendous and I have thoroughly enjoyed spending my pre season with this special club. The boys have been wonderful and I have kept a high level of fitness throughout."

Club chairman Muhammad Rahman said: "This is a special victory by a special team. The way we have all clicked together has been nothing short of phenomenal. The achievement has not hit home yet and what the team has achieved will take some time to sink in.

"I hope this is the start of many special memories for this great outfit."
