Classic cars from the 1980s including the Ford Capri are being showcased as part of a heritage project in Blackburn

Members of charity One Voice have been filming their latest video for the town following on from ‘We Love Blackburn’, which was launched earlier in the year.

Young people are co-producing the new project which features various models people owned in the early 1980s.

These included a Datsun 180B, Ford Capri MK1, Mercedes 280SL, BMW E30 Alpina and a Chopper bike. The vehicles were filmed at locations at Corporation Park, Brantfell Road, James St, Exchange Street, and King George’s Hall.

Zaffer Khan, chief executive of One Voice Blackburn who also directed the film, said: “We always attempt to showcase the very best of Blackburn in our video productions, but this year we wanted to add a twist to the storyline.

“There is an abundance of nostalgia and while I was a school kid in the 1980s and look back with much fondness, the young people involved in the filming also took it on board. The clothes, the cars, the props, and the sounds will make this short film worth watching.”

Local car enthusiasts were all too keen to get involved in the project, which is supported by the Arts Council and Heritage Fund.

Sajad Hussain loaned his Capri and Datsun. He said: “These cars were the face of Blackburn in those days. I’m from Blackburn and still live in the town so it was a pleasure to have the cars showcased in this way. It will be nice to see the outcome of the film.”

The video title will be announced in October, and the premiere will take place at the 1V Awards Dinner in February 2024.

One Voice was set up in 2011 and won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2018.
