Proceeds from a family fun day in Blackburn will support an orphanage in Malawi.

The Garden of Sarah Project is an initiative set up by the Huffaz Network which aims to support families and young people in Malawi. It is being headed by Blackburn-based businessmen Hamza Suba and Helal Hussain.

They had visited the country and saw first-hand how young children were unable to access educational facilities in Blantyre - the second largest city in the African country.

Volunteers have already raised over £20,000 towards the project through a series of fundraising events and sponsorships.

To support the cause, the charity is hosting a fun day at Audley Sports Centre on Sunday May 28. Stall spaces for the event have already been sold out.

Humza said: “The project came about following a visit to the country in Ramadan in 2022 and we saw first-hand the situation.

“The idea of an orphanage was linked to the tragic loss of the our founder’s daughter - Sarah - who died in Malawi. So, this was a way of building something in her memory.”

Helal said: “It is a worthy cause, we are hosting the family fun day to raise more funds towards the project.

“We do hope families will turn out and support us.”
