A businessman says he has had a large amount of money stolen from his car as he went to the mosque to break his fast.

The break-in happened on Blackburn Road in Astley Bridge while he prayed.

CCTV footage shows a man trying a number of cars before gaining access to one on the street.

The businessman, who did not wish to be named, said he had been due to pay an invoice and that is why he had money in the car.

He left it inside while he visited the mosque to break his fast during Ramadan.

But when he returned he found the money had gone during the incident at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 29 near to PK Foods.

CCTV shows the a person trying other cars before managing to get into his.

The man’s son spoke about the incident.

He said: “They were going through a few cars then they tried my dad’s car.

“He press the button to lock the car but the car won’t have locked.

“My dad parked up to go to the mosque to break his fast.

“He is a businessman who was going to pay an invoice.

“His is very upset about it.

“We have been in touch with the police.”

He urged anyone with information about the theft to come forward.

Greater Manchester Police declined to comment on the incident.

Police recently revealed that vehicle crime was their number one priority in the north of Bolton.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Clarke said they had made a number of arrests recently in relation to this.

She said that theft of motor vehicles was being treated as separate from the theft from motor vehicles as it largely involved to different sets of offenders.
