A campaign aims to create more awareness of the prevalence of Hepatitis C is  in British South Asian communities.

The Hep C, Ki? campaign is being shared as part of World Hepatitis Day (28 July) and aims to raise awareness of the risk factors for contracting hepatitis C, specific to British South Asian communities.

It is estimated that 50% of people with hepatitis C do not know that they have the virus, and it is therefore vital that members of the South Asian community are able to access testing for hepatitis C.

Backed by the NHS and the Hepatitis C Trust, the disease awareness programme is calling on those who might be at risk to get tested for hepatitis C.

The Hep C, Ki? campaign was launched in 2021 in response to a drop in hepatitis C testing of 30% in British South Asian communities.

The campaign includes aunconventional comedy sketches featuring top British South Asian comedians Eshaan Akbar, Sukh Ojla and Ali Official.

Hepatitis C risk factors in British South Asian communities include those individuals born in countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and those who have taken part in common everyday practices and those who have taken part in common everyday practices when overseas, such as receiving medical, dental or cosmetic treatment if equipment such as needles are not sterilised properly.
