It is one of the most successful Bollywood movies ever made starring some of the most famous actors of their generation. But amid one of the film's most popular songs is a Blackburn Rovers shirt.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Something Happens) was released in 1998 and catapulted Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol to superstar status.

It was filmed in India, Mauritius and Scotland and was legendary director Karan Johar's debut. It tells the story of two high school friends who drift apart but are reunited years later by the daughter of the later widowed father.

The two lead actors were joined by Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan a soundtrack that helped make the movie one of the biggest box office hits of the decade. It was the highest-grossing Indian film of the year and the third highest-grossing Indian film at that time watched by millions across the world.

It won eight Filmfare Awards, India’s equivalent of the Oscars and was the only film to win all four acting awards.

In the track Koi Mil Gya (I found someone) eagle-eyed viewers may well have spotted a dancer wearing what looks like a Blackburn Rovers shirt. It has the correct sponsor at the time – CIS - but strangely enough no badge.

The dancer appears throughout the video directly behind Shah Rukh Khan.

Filming for the movie had begun in October 1997 and it was a season when Rovers were making a little bit of a resurgence in the Premier League under Roy Hodgson. The club were second in the table behind Manchester United at Christmas and throughout the mid-90s had remained one of the Premier League's strongest sides.

It is said the costume designers wanted to give a Beverly Hills 90210 feel to the movie. It was also a film famed for its 'youthful and sporty' costumes and a football shirt may have been thrown into the midst to help reach out to younger audiences.

Or what seems more likely is the shirt looked far more unique in design than the other more familiar reds of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

The mid-90s also saw Bollywood make a big impact in the UK with movies being shown in mainstream cinemas.

The movie’s success came on the back of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, made in 1995 which made household names of both Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

The official video to Koi Mil Gya has been viewed 85 million times on YouTube.
