A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder after a mum-of-six was stabbed to death in Oldham. 

Abid Mahmood, of Cambridge Street, Oldham, has been charged with the murder of Tamby Dowling.

The 34-year-old has also been charged with a section 18 wounding offence and will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today.

Officers were called just before 7pm on Monday, November 8 to reports a woman had been attacked at Water Mill Avenue, Oldham.

Tamby Dowling, 36, suffered serious stab injuries and sadly, despite the efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old girl also required hospital treatment but has since been released.

GoFundMe page set up to support Tamby’s family has so far received more than 1,000 donations and raised more than £21,000. 

The page reads: “Tamby always put her children first, and we want to raise funds to ensure her children are taken care of, as well as any funeral costs.”

In a statement released by police last week Tamby's family paid tribute to her.

Tamby's parents, Mary Dowling and Keith Hawley, stepfather Graham Marsh, and stepmother Diane Pleavin, described her as a "very good mother, brilliant daughter, and friend to everyone who knew her".

book of condolence for Tamby on The Oldham Times website has meanwhile been flooded with heartfelt tributes.

Tamby’s sister Stacey, wrote: “All I keep asking is why? Why my sister? Tamby had a heart of gold and would help anyone no matter what.

“Don't get me wrong we didn't always get along but what sisters do? Tamby's life was her children and family now we all have to live without her."
