Interior work at a new German Doner Kebab (GDK) restaurant has begun in Blackburn and is set to be completed next month.

Work on the site in Eanam started in September with the exterior walls being demolished.

A glass frontage has now been installed on the building which will also include a spiral staircase leading up to a wedding hall and events venue on the second floor. This will be run separately from the GDK restaurant.

The GDK restaurant is set to employ up to 20 staff and has been renovated at a cost of £500,000.

Work is set to be completed in the next month and the restaurant is planning to be ready for deliveries and collections from March 26 under Covid-19 restrictions.

The new restaurant will be the brand’s 56th site in the UK.

Daniel Bunce, GDK MD for UK and Europe, said: “We’re delighted to officially announce plans to bring the German Doner Kebab experience to Blackburn.

“Our game-changing kebabs are revolutionising the kebab in the UK and we are excited to be bringing a new fast-casual experience to the area, offering great tasting fresh food in a relaxed and modern setting.”

A further restaurant based next door to the GDK is also being planned but details for this are yet to be revealed.

In 2019 it was announced the Eanam site would be home to the new 100-seater GDK restaurant which will take up half the ground floor.

The building is owned the Adhan Group of Properties and was formerly the Maida Restaurant.
