Three intrepid trekkers are to scale the highest mountain in North Africa to raise funds for charity.
Mohsin Alli will be joined by colleagues as they look to scale Mount Toubkal, which has a height of 4167m and is the highest mountain in Morocco. It will take them two days to climb the mountain walking 16km to the summit.
The trio are raising money in memory of Mohsin’s wife who died from cancer this summer.
Mohsin said, “Earlier this year my wife Farida was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, and after a short battle she passed away.
“As something that is close to my heart we want to raise funds to support patients and families being affected by cancer.
“I have set myself two challenges (for now) as a commitment to make a difference.
“The first challenge I have set myself is on 4 October 2019; to climb Mount Toubkal (4167m) - the highest mountain in Morocco and North Africa( Atlas Mountains)
“I will then proceed to take on a bigger challenge in March 2020, where myself and three good friends (Mehfuz Master and Ilyas Lehri), will climb Mount Kilamanjaro.”
The three have been training and taking part in treks regularly.
Ilyas said, “We already take part in a number of walks locally but this will be a whole new challenge. It will take a lot of effort but I think we have the determination to succeed.”
All proceeds from the challenges will go towards The Christies NHS Foundation Trust and the East Lancashire Hospice.
