A woman who died when she was hit by a car as she got off a bus in Birmingham has been named.

Officers were called to Bristol Road after the 65-year-old was struck by a car as she got off a bus just before 3.30pm on Saturday 22 December.

Baljit Kaur was treated for serious internal injuries but sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police.

“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw a blue Volkswagen Golf car which was involved in the collision.

“Our thoughts remain with Mrs Kaur’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers at this tragic time."

The family of Mrs Kaur have released this statement: “On the 22nd December 2018 at approximately 3.25pm, our family lost my beloved wife Baljit Kaur who was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister.

“We as a family are devastated and ask if there are any witnesses who can provide any information, no matter how small, or can assist with the investigation in any way, to please come forward.

“We also ask for our time to grieve privately and thank all well-wishers and those who helped at the scene."
