This picture of woman wearing a veil sat next to a drag queen has gone viral.
The image has been praised by many people of showing New York City’s diversity.
In it Sam Themer is seen wearing a red wig and is sat alongside a Muslim woman who is covered head to toe in a burka and face veil.
Whilst the familiar internet trolls were out in force criticising the image many praised it.
For many it was was evidence about how two different ideas and cultures can survive next to one another.
The image had got 21,000 likes on Instagram and was shared across the world.
Speaking to The Daily Beast Sam said, “I was just going about my day at the time, but the fact that this image has blown up shows just being yourself can be an act of resistance.”
“It’s radical in itself that this woman and I can exist together on a train in this political climate and not be bothered by anyone during our whole ride.”
On a real note, the diversity in this picture is what I love so much about NYC #subwaycreatures https://t.co/RBlsE85XYJ

I love #NYC. This is why we reject #Islamophobia, fear-mongering, trans-hatred, #LGBT discrimination. Pic via @SubwayCreatures #islam #fb pic.twitter.com/NpTDEGMeCq
