An Indian movie that is regarded as one of the most iconic in the country's history has several links to Buckinghamshire.

The 2001 Hindi-spoken blockbuster, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’ raked approximately $29m at the international box office.

This made it one of the most commercially successful Bollywood movies of all time.

It was also the highest-grossing movie in Indian history, a title it held for five years.

And amazingly, sections of the three-and-a-half-hour flick had scenes shot in the county that we call home, and no, they were not recorded at Pinewood Studios.

The movie, which boasts an ensemble Indian cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor, tells the story of a multimillionaire family’s struggle as their adopted son marries a woman belonging to a lower socio-economic group than them.

The son is eventually shunned from the family by the father before he leaves India with his wife to England.

He remains distant from his adoptive clan for 10 years until his brother travels to the UK to trace him down.

The emotional blockbuster focuses on family abandonment, a mother's pain of losing a child and classism.

Primarily shot in India, parts of the flick were incredibly recorded inside and outside Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury.

The Grade I listed building was used as the protagonist family’s ‘New Delhi’ home when in reality, the location was more than 4,000 miles from the Indian city.

One of the most iconic scenes from the movie is when Shah Rukh Khan, who plays the adopted son of Rahul Raichand lands in front of the manor via a private helicopter.

Other scenes are also shot inside the building, which was built between 1874 and 1899.

The movie was recorded between October 2000 and May 2001.

Additionally, a cricket scene in the movie was shot at Stowe School in Buckingham.
