Are you British? Prove it? How does one justify their right to have British as their identity?

Does holding a passport answer all the critics?

I regard myself as British everything about me is British. I have never been asked to vouch for this reality.

If I were challenged then one piece of evidence I would use in my defence would be the fact that I can speak about the weather till the milk producing variety return home. Another would have to be the fact that we British recognize when at a shop/restaurant you queue.

Something that is in-built in the people from the place that supports the Union Jack. Apparently, I am told, this is purely a British phenomenon.

If I was to delve deeper into the realms of belonging I would have to say I am English as that is the flag I was flying and the t-shirt I was wearing during the World Cup, and for anyone who is wondering no, I did not speed over to Matalan after England lost to replace the obsolete T-shirt with a Brazilian one.

You could even say I am Lancatrian as I am Blackburn born and bred. Anyone who knows me will vouch for the fact that I have one of the broadest Lancashire accents this side of Coronation Street.

Lets come to choice. Why are we quizzed as to whether we are British or Pakistani?

A friend of mine was asked his natonality at the airport. Having answered British the lady was unsatisfied and said "What about before that?" She smartly responded "Heaven".

Both would have to be the answer. A British Pakistani as that is the place my forefathers are from.

For those who persist on a decision between the two. It is like asking a child who they love more their mother or father? But then would it not be more accurate for me to say I am a British Muslim or does that just complicate matters?

One of my friends describes herself as British Asian and feels religion has nothing to do with it.

Another angle is would you say British is too loose a term? Does the fact that you have taken on the country to be your own mean that you are obliged to contribute to that country socially, and economically? Absolutely without a doubt is the answer to that one.

How would one describe a true Brit? Is the description of a true Brit, White Anglo Saxon Protestants? Is that the representation you would need to fit to be accepted?

After all we are all children of immigrants so how do we prove our Britishness?

Does buying a poppy for Remembrance Sunday suffice or maybe producing an effigy of Guy Fawkes to be placed at the top of the bonfire? The fact is British is not a colour, religion socio economic grouping. Neither is it a time scale or financial contribution.

To be British means you accept this to be your home.

You integrate and participate in society within the realms of you religious beliefs.

To respect this land and all it stands for.

To abide by and respect the rules of the country we reside in. Unity is the key here; segregation is not a viable option.

The majority of Asians satisfy all the above so with this being the truth we truly are are unequivocally BRITISH.
